Users in India are facing payment issues using GPay, Paytm, and other UPI apps. UPI outage disrupts digital transactions
The system was temporarily down for about an hour and was later stabilized by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). A widespread UPI outage on Wednesday (March 26, 2025) affected digital transactions, and many users reported issues with the instant payment interface UPI Transaction Issues.
Users across India face disruptions in Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions, including payment failures on Google Pay, Paytm, and other banking apps. According to Downdetector, reports of disruptions increased in the evening, affecting transactions, fund transfers, and log-in access UPI Transaction Issues.
Based on user reports, the number of complaints due to the outage has increased on the service disruption monitoring platform Downdetector. The system was temporarily down for about an hour and was later stabilized by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) UPI Transaction Issues.
NPCI was facing intermittent technical issues due to which UPI was partially down. This has now been resolved and the system is stable. “Sorry for the inconvenience,” the payments regulator said in a post on X. Affected services
Google Pay users primarily reported payment issues (72%), followed by website access (14%) and app-related issues (14%). Payments were also disrupted, with 86% of the complaints related to payments, while login and purchase functions accounted for 9% and 6% respectively. Banking services were also disrupted, with the State Bank of India (SBI) facing issues with fund transfers (47%), mobile banking (37%) and online banking (16%). Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant payment system developed and operated by the RBI-regulated entity NPCI. UPI Transaction Issues
The issues seem to have started in the late afternoon, with Downdetector graphs showing a sharp increase in complaints around 7 pm. Social media users have also reported failed transactions and delays in fund transfers. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates UPI, is yet to issue a statement on the cause of the disruption UPI Transaction Issues.
As mentioned, there has been no official statement yet on why UPI services were down across the country. However, Moneycontrol tried to make the payment and initially, the money was deducted from the account. However, the money was refunded to the account with the message “UPI down in India: Users facing issues making payments via GPay, Paytm, and other UPI apps”.
It is also widely used for making small payments at local shops, as there is no minimum transaction limit. Additionally, UPI offers a convenient AutoPay feature, which allows users to set up recurring payments for bills and subscriptions, making transactions seamless and hassle-free.
